[comp.sys.mac.comm] PS/2 on AppleTalk to use InBox

waire@seas.gwu.edu (Timothy A. Waire Jr.) (01/31/91)

We have a couple of PS/2 55SX that we would like to connect to our AppleTalk
network to utilize TOPS InBox. We have purchased AppleShare PC only to
use the AppleTalk drivers. It seems that this software does not support the
ethernet board installed in the PS/2's (Racal InterLan NI9210-UTP).

We want to be able to use InBox-DOS on the PC to share e-mail. Is this
feasible? Are their new versions of AppleShare PC (we have 2.0.1) that
support this board?

Thanks in advance!

The best way to do this would be to use the Sitka FlashCard MC.
This is a FlashTalk Card specifically designed for Micro Channel machines
such as the Model 55sx. You can then connect directly in to your LocalTalk network. You could also use a 3Com 3C523 Etherlink MC board using the drivers from version three of DosTOPS. (You can request these drivers from Sitka
tech support (sitka-support@sitka.sun.com)
You would load our drivers and then InBox and would be able to see zones and message centres contained within the zones.

e.g. run the following commands:

FCALAP (or ELAP523)
PSTACK
ALERT
INBOX

I run InBox PC on my 55sx using exactly this approach.

You cannot use an AppleShare PC card in a PS/2. I do not know if Apple's
software supports any Micro Channel cards. (But I would like to - Any
takers ?)

Farallon Computing have taken over the rights to the Apple Card and
software and will evidently be providing future upgrades to it. They would
be able to tell you more about what the board will support in the future,
and what new support for PS/2's is planned, if any.

You can contact them at:
