[comp.sys.mac.comm] MacTCP hangs boot

rtp1@quads.uchicago.edu (raymond thomas pierrehumbert) (02/10/91)

I just tried installing MacX and MacTCP on my MacIIx; after a reboot
it worked fine. I'm using a direct Ethernet connection, and I chose
Ethernet rather than Ethertalk in the controll panel; I am using an
older version of the Ethertalk icon because I haven't upgraded my
gatorbox software yet. I'm a little confused about the control panel
now, because I choose "Ethertalk" in the networks control panel, but
to make things work I need to choose "Ethernet, " not "Ethertalk" in
the TCP control panely. In any event, it was working...
Until I tried to reboot. I got to the "communications toolbox"
init on a boot, but there it hung forever. Removing Appleshare Prep
and other inits didn't help. In the end, I had to wipe my System
Folder clear and reload the system from the fileserver. A real
nuisance. I couldn't find any way to de-install the communications
toolbox.
Has anybody else experienced this problem? Right now I have about
given up on MacX, because I can't afford to waste another 2 hours
seeing if it works next time.
