[comp.sys.mac.comm] TelePort Modem and one ADB; MNP in software

Someone asked about using up the one and only ADB port on some macs
with the TelePort modem. Not a problem. The TelePort cable has
another ADB on it so one can plug the keyboard, the modem , and the
mouse all in one ADB port. I have had my TelePort on my mac LC for
a couple of weeks and have been very impressed except for one thing:
apparently the MNP stuff (levels 4 and 5) are in software instead of
hardware. This shouldn't be a problem, because I have been able to
download things in the background with multifinder. The problem is
the MNP softare has trouble downgrading to the MNP level of the remote
modem, so one must have the MNP level set in the TelePort cdev for the
right level of the remote modem ahead of time. Global Village claims
they are working on the problem right now and will ship a new disk
with the MNP stuff on it fixed to all registered owners next quarter.
