[comp.sys.mac.comm] How can I get a Meta key for emacs?

I know I can use escape followed by something to achieve the same effect, but I
would like a key that I can use like control, i.e. simultaneously.  How can I
assign such a key in Microphone II, VersaTerm or Red Ryder?  Please let me know
if there is other software which allows this option.
