I just received my White Knight upgrade from RR 10.3. So far I'm satisfied, although it seems more similar to Red Ryder than I expected. Somehow I hoped for radical change. But it works well (except possibly for my question below), and I don't have to rewrite all my procedures, so I can't complain. I only have one problem. I could very well be doing something wrong, but I can't figure it out, and the manual is not helpful: I'm transfering text files from my Ultrix system to my Mac using the Zmodem protocol. I get no carriage returns coming through. I can see that they are in the original file by 'enumerating' the carriage return and linefeeds (ascii 13 and 10) in the 'terminal filter'. I see <10>'s and <13>'s coming through fine on the screen when I 'more' the file. When I set up the 'file transfer filter' the same way, zmodem allows through the <10>'s, but no <13>'s. I can't find anyplace that I am stripping out carriage returns. I am NOT stripping them in the filter, I am explicitely letting them pass through, or enumerating them. They don't make it. Thinking maybe somehow I had screwed up my filters, I tried Kermit, which should also use the file transfer filters. Kermit works just fine, sending through line feeds and carriage returns. When I strip out line feeds in the file transfer filter, they are removed in Kermit transfers, and carriage returns pass just fine. But when I immediately transfer the same file with the same exact settings through Zmodem, the linefeeds are stripped correctly, but there are no carriage returns. I'm using 'sz' on my Ultrix machine, and it has always sent files correctly before using Zterm 0.85, and I've never noticed a stripping of carriage returns. Is it the Ultrix end that is screwing up? Is there a newer or better implementation of Zmodem for Ultrix? By the way, I don't have the 'Paragraph Format' option checked anywhere, if anybody thinks of that. So, I'm stuck. For now I'm just converting all linefeeds to carriage returns instead of stripping them out, and that seems to work. But why is it doing this? E-mail me any ideas, as my news server has been flakey lately.
