We are having problems with an EtherTalk (phase II) application. It looks like its about time to get down into the bits with Peek. Is there Peek for EtherTalk phase II? Does it exist? Can I get it? Can I buy it? Barring an existing Peek utility, is there a driver that will let my EtherTalk cards accept packets sent to any EtherNet address? We are using 3COM EtherLink II and GatorCards. If I just had the packets, I could interpret them myself. Are there interface specs for these drivers? If there are no drivers, are there cards that can be configured to accept packets sent to any EtherNet address? Are there interface specs for these cards? Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.

I know there are a number of commercial net monitor packages for Mac's now, but have only used one. The one I use is Racal-Interlan's EtherScope. It came with my MacConnect 310 board, so it was a real deal for me. I don't know if it supports other hardware or not. It understands AT Phase 1 and 2 as well as IP and a number of other protocols. You can filter packets based on protocol and/or address. In addition you can assign names to Ethernet addresses and so see traffic on a by name basis. You can construct you're own packets and send them to any address you want. Overall I would give it very good marks for what it does, which is a fair amount more than I have described. Since I paid only $330 (being at a Univ.) for the board and software, I'm pretty pleased. Mike Paisley Paisley@ccvr1.cc.ncsu.edu PAISLEY@NCSUMTE.BITNET

Can I get it? Can I buy it? I'm using "NetMinder Ethernet" from Neon Software for analyzing EtherTalk traffic. I captures everything that passes by your ethernet card and it is great for filtering, analyzing, etc. It understands EtherTalk phase II. Neon Software has just released a similar product for monitoring localtalk traffic: "NetMinder Localtalk" - I have ordered it but not received it yet. "NetMinder Ethernet" is $420.75 and "NetMinder LocalTalk" will be $335.75 - both prices are educational discount prices. I'm not affiliated with Neon Software - I'm just a very satisfied user of "NetMinder Ethernet". You can contact Neon Software at internet address D5969@AppleLink.Apple.com - they have been very responsive when I contacted them. /Sven, sms@dou.dk, Odense University, Denmark -- Sven Meiborg Sorensen Internet: sms@dou.dk Senior Analyst Odense University, Denmark

The best program (by Far) is EtherPeek from the AG Group. They are very helpful, and actually add features that are requested by customers !! They can be reached at 415-937-2479.
