A friend of mine has a mac that was purchased as a 128 mac, then upgraded to a 512 and againg to a 2mg machine. He has purchased a hayes compatible modem and is attempting to use Red Ryder comm software. I have hooked everything up for him and reviewed the connections several times. The problem is that when I try to dial out, nothing happens! The phone doesnt make the dial sound (I can hear the dial tone, but no dialing). The software doesnt seem to be getting to the phone. I was wondering if his machine is missing something. Any advice is really appreciated. Thanks, Bruce Bruce Ledbetter bledbett@server1.prime.com

Any advice is really > appreciated. You can hear the dial tone, so I guess the port connections are OK. Are you issuing a modem initialization command before dialing? (In Hayes language, an "ATZ" before "ATDT" or "ATDP" One other thing comes to mind: are you using a tone-dial command ATDT on a pulse line? Try ATDP # (or configure Red Ryder to use pulse dialing -- I'm not familiar with the program, but this must be on one of the "Set-ups" or "Options" menu, or something like that). If you can't figure out how to change Red Ryder (no insult intended), if the program is any good it should let you type the dialing commands directly. Try: ATZ (or ATZn, where n is some #; see your modem docs) carriage-return. ATDP (telephone number) carriage-return. Hope that helps.
