Is anyone out there using Macs on a Novell network. I will soon be implementing such a network, and I like to hear from some people with real world experience. schoen2@husc9.harvard.edu

Sorry to post this, but I got a response to my post from a markw@local.wc.novell.com, and my mail server is unable to find such a location. So mark, if you're out there, this is for you. I think you'll be able to help me a lot. The decision to use Novell has already been made - Harvard University has a grant for Novell software. So I don't think your bias will be any problem. I'm in a bit of a rush right now, but some quick concerns are: 1) Our basic set-up will be 20 PCs and 6 Mac IIci's on ethernet, going to the fileserver. Also on ethernet will be our imagesetter (which has a direct ethernet interface), and a proof printer, which may have to go through something like Shiva's EtherPrint to hook it up to ethernet. Then, with a localtalk card for the fileserver, there d would be a few Mac SEs and a laserprinter or two on localtalk. What concerns should I have about speed, printing, etc., with a mixed medium network. Is it better to spend the extra $ for an all ethernet deal. The reason for the seperation now is that the IIci will be doing a lot of heavy network use, dragging around large graphic files, while the SEs will be used solely for business, running a 4D database. 2) Can you reccomend a good intro book? I'll get back to you later in the week with some more comprehensible questions. Thanks. Michael A. Schoen schoen2@husc9.harvard.edu PS: Mark, please send me a useable email address. Thanks.
