I'm having troubles using ftp to anywhere outside my local Rutgers net. My sysadmin says that the trouble is due to the ancient version of AT&T Unix we're using (2.1.2), so that what happens is as soon as I get connected, I immediately get disconnected. Usually the message "getsockname invalid" comes up right then. With telnet, I also can't connect to any sites outside of Rutgers, except a few. I get connected, the host tells me what the escape character is and then I get the message "connection closed by foreign host". In fact, they only way I was able to get here was to telnet to a upenn site that is like a router, and then telnet from there to here. Unfortunately, I can't use that route for ftp. Can anyone help me out here? Should I give up and try to get an account on a decent other mainframe of Rutgers that works better? Is there something I can do on my end to make my telnet/ftp more friendly to other hosts? Oh yeah, the Unix machine I'm connecting to is an AT&T 3b15, which i've heard is a piece of crap. Thanks for any info. Mark Rosen mrosen@ruccas.rutgers.edu OR markj.bbs@shark.cs.fau.edu
