Who make Liaison? and what does it do besides route printing across from EtherNet to LocalTalk? I saw a reference for it in the Nov '90 MacUser, and it seems to be something we'd find useful, but there was no reference to the company who makes it. Also, what's the Apple Internet Router? Liason is a chooser level device (an rdev) that makes Localtalk resources such as printers accessible across any given Appletalk zone. It was originally made by a company in Oregon called Infosphere, but its marketing and support have been assumed by Farallon.

Besides provides routing between EtherTalk and LocalTalk networks (which is mostly used for printing, but which I think also works well for AppleShare file server connectivity). In addition, Liaison also enables remote modem links to your network. It's sort of obvious why Farallon wanted to acquire it. BTW, a new version is due out very shortly, which provides Phase II compatibility, some bug fixes, and a couple of other useful features. > >Also, what's the Apple Internet Router? > The Internet Router from Apple provides the same type of routing functions as Liaison, but without the remote connectivity capability. Also, both products work either on a dedicated machine (i.e., such as an AppleShare server), or in the background on a non-dedicated machine (though anyone doing heavy work on such machine may not be happy with the resulting performance of said machine). I would like to use Liaisonet (part of Liaison) together with my Abaton 24/96 faxmodem to connect remotely to an AppleTalk network. With Liaisonet (2.0) active the InterFax control in my control panel is always turned off. I can't send faxes as long as Liaisonet is on. But then, I can't simply turn off Liaisonet. Have to remove its files from the system folder and reboot if I want to send faxes again. Am I doing something wrong or is there a problem with the Liaisonet or faxmodem software?
