Looks like plans to bring 8444 to St Louis for grand opening of
St Louis Union Station redevelopment have fallen thru. Press
releases in both local paper yesterday and today give following
information:
Recreated "City of St. Louis" Streamliner will arrive in St
Louis Aug 28th at 4:30PM for opening of project.
Consist includes 1949 dining car, 1949 lounge car and 1950
sleeping car which will be open to public. Engine will be
pulled by 30 year old UP diesel-electric # 951.
Cars will be open after 2PM opening ceremony on 29th and all day
on 30th.
Steam Engine from Museum of Transport is also supposed to be on
display.
Train will make stops along way from Omaha on 28th in
Independence, Sedalia, Jefferson City, New Haven and Kirkwood.
Only VIP's and news media have been invited along. No times for
stops were given.
