[comp.sys.mac.comm] PCs and Macs, living together

acmdtp@zeus.unomaha.edu (Acronym Oversight Committee Chair) (04/29/91)

How's this configuration sound:

	* 12 IBM-compatibles, 7 Macs, and 2 Laserwriters on an
	  /AppleTalk/ network?

Here's what we planned: Using Farallon's PCLocalTalk cards and software,
we're going to put the IBMs and Mac stuff on a Farallon StarController.
Sounds routine, but what I want to know is --

	--Has anyone out there done this before?

	It was cheaper than ethernet (even twisted-pair) by about
3,000 dollars. Now, before someone shrieks, "cheaper isn't better," for our
needs -- minimal file sharing, printing, and access (via a Fastpath, which
was also purchased) to the academic computer network (a VAX) -- it
was the best deal.

Send me mail; if I get some good responses, and after our network is up and
running, I'll post a summary of comments.
