[comp.sys.mac.comm] zmodem for 7-bit system??

6600dayl@ucsbuxa.ucsb.edu (Darryl "NOT Sara" Lee) (05/03/91)

hi...i was on here about a week ago asking about using Zmodem on a
7-bit network. thanks for the myriad of responses. unfortunately the
people that told that it wouldn't work were right, and those that told
me it might were wrong.

the closest thing i have to a lead are the very very complete docs to
zmodem which a kind soul sent to me. listed in the "things to come"
chapter is "a version of Zmodem that works on 7-bit systems"....

yahoo, i said, but then the bad news...

sent mail to the guy at "Omen Technologies" (could the name of the
company alone signal a problem), and haven't gotten any response as
yet.

so...my question to all you, as the fake John Sculley put it,
"erstwhile netters", is: have you seen it? Zmodem for a 7-bit
system.

yes, yes, i know, you don't need it, so why would you have seen it,
but hey...give a guy stuck on an old network a break... :}

thanks much...for the last responses and for the responses to come...

The ZModem protocol has been enhanced in the past couple years with
several enhancements, including operation over a 7-bit data path.
Unfortunately, these enhancements are not in the public domain, and
require a license from Omen Tech to use them.

I have heard that a company called SeaQuest is working on a ZModem tool
for the Comm ToolBox, and I think it will include some/all of the
new ZModem features.

Some numbers for Seaquest: Voice: (503) 645-2282
