After reading messages saying that the Speedlink line of Ethernet Cards made by EMAC didn't work under 7.0, I got concerned. Our server runs on a NuBus Speedlink card and I was planning to upgrade it to System 7.0 to enable a database server to run at the same time as some light filesharing was in use. Well, I tried to install over 6.0.7 (and the hords of Inits) with the 7.0 installer but the resulting hodge-podge wouldn't even boot (it never got to the finder and didn't even get to the point of loading any INITs !!!). I promptly trashed the system file and decided to install from scratch (I'm positive that you simply CANNOT install over an existing 6.0 system that is reasonably loaded with running into severe problems, I strongly recommend NEVER to install over your old system). Anyway, I manually installed the .ENET DRVR ressource from the EMAC Speedlink v2.5 installer disk with ResEdit into the system 7.0 system file, copied the EtherTalk 2.0 file into the Extensions folder (with an Alias of the file in the System Folder) and copied the Network CDEV into the Control Panel folder. It took me a while to figure out that I needed the Alias of EMAC's EtherTalk file in there (I got error messages saying that the selected AppleTalk interface could not be activated as the driver could not be located). This would only occur at startup, I could correctly select it with the Network CDEV. Just remember NOT to install the EtherTalk stuff supplied with System 7.0, these are for Apple products only. This is with 7.0b4... Oh yeah, QuickMail server runs fine too. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pascal Gosselin | Internet: P.Gosselin@CAM.ORG Applelink: CDA0585 | | Gest-Mac Inc.
