[comp.sys.mac.comm] Unix to Mac, binary files

A couple of questions:
The xmodem implementation on the Unix machine I log onto has a
choice to send text files in "Mac" mode, which converts the Unix
newlines to Mac returns. When I want to download a .hqx file that I
got by ftp from the Unix machine to my Mac, do I use the normal send
text mode, or the send text Mac mode? Or in binary mode, which would
keep the file exactly as it appeared on the Unix machine?
For binary files, White Knight seems to have only the choice of
Macbinary and text. If I download by xmodem using the Unix's setting
"binary", will I receive a binary file, or will WK turn it into text?
How does one work McVert, the program that takes hqx files on Unix
and turns them into a MacBinary file on the Unix machine, that would
make it easier and faster to download?

Thanks for any help!
