Well, Maybe my first message didn't get through or maybe the answer is sooo obvious it doesn't warrant an answer but _someone_ help please. I downloaded the Telent with SLIP version from cisco and I have set in the config file hardware=2400SLIP (or whatever) but how do I use it ? Do I have to give the machine's address as atdp xxx xxxx ???.??.??.?? ie do I have to give modem instructions as well as IP address or what ? **HELP** Thanks in advance, Dave.

You will need to the following: 1.) A SLIP to TCP/IP gateway to dial into. 2.) An IP number for your Mac running Telnet. 3.) A way to dial the modem (there are several DA's to do this). You can not just dial into a normal host, unless that dial in line supports slip. also note that you will also have to get an IP address from who ever handles such requests for the network the gateway is on. To connect to your machine, uses you favourite terminal program, log on the machine, and uses the local slip command to create the route. For a sun it could be : slip-attach <device> <speed> <local ip adresse> <YOUR ip adresse defined in you telnet> <net mask, usualy 255.255.255.0> or sliplogin <route name, defined by sysadmin> Then, quit you terminal program (be careful to NOT drop DTR line!) and launch cisco-telnet... you can now open a session. Thanks to cisco's folk for SLIP telnet ! Is there others SLIP tools availables ? like SMTP, NNTP.. ? > Dave. -- Michel 'BusError' Pollet internet: michel%segin4.segin.fr@relay.prime.com uucp : michel@trantor.fr.mugnet.org
