[comp.sys.mac.comm] Personal Iris -> LocalTalk -> Laserwriter IIntx

pejacoby@mmm.serc.3m.com (Paul E. Jacoby) (05/20/91)

I've recently installed a Silicon Graphics Personal Iris 4D/35. The
machine is basically a stand-alone unit at the moment, and I'd like to
get it connected to our LocalTalk network so we can print to our
networked Laserwriter IIntx's. As an additional perk, accessing disk
space as an AppleShare volume would be cool.

A post to comp.sys.sgi resulted in many responses of 'get a GatorBox
from Cayman Systems'. The only problem is that our network people are
in the process of _pulling_ GatorBoxes because they are causing problems
on the network (I don't have details, just a warning to NOT get a
Gator).

I'm looking into other solutions, including CAP, uAccess, etc. If
anyone with info/experience in this arena could drop me a note, I'd be
forever grateful. Well, grateful enough :-)

Thanks much.
