OK, here's one: does any manufacturer produce models of British prototypes
in HO scale? One of the New York dealers blandly advertises "HO scale" (1/87)
British equipment, which is actually made by Hornby in OO scale (1/76). Even
though British OO tracks are misgauged so that the trains will run, after a
fashion, on HO gauge track (you can make the wheels fit the NMRA gauge by
reducing the flange depth and thickness on the back of the wheels) they
simply don't look right next to true HO eqipment. Instead of having a
diminutive appearance, the British trains come out to be about the same size
as American trains, but with an oversized, clumsy air about them. I have
two GWR locomotives ("Devizes Castle", by Wrenn, and a kit-built 0-6-0 pannier
tank), and four Hornby coaches in the GWR's chocolate-and-cream livery, but
I seldom use them as they look so odd next to HO scale trains. Any ideas?
No, I haven't the patience to do much scratch-building.

I have quite a it of Hornby OO from 25+ years ago when I was a child
living in the UK. Is it, or something compatible, still available??
