I just got my Abaton Interfax 24/96 fax modem and software to run with my Mac at home. As I cannot afford a dedicated line for the modem, I would like to configure the modem or software so that it will only answer the phone if there is a fax machine at the other end. Is this possible, or must the call be answered before a fax machine can be detected? I know there are fax machines available which do differentiate between fax and voice and will switch the call to the telephone. The May issue of MacUser states that Technology Concepts makes the Fax Line Manager Model 202 to do this for $169, while MacSema's Ringo ET will turn on the Mac if it detects a fax on the other end ($69.95). Neither of these appear to be discounted through the mail order houses. Are there any other (cheaper) options? Thanks, -- W.
