[comp.sys.mac.comm] Info on DataClub and GraceLAN

weiss@mott.seas.ucla.edu (Michael Weiss) (05/23/91)

I would like people to send me info on both DataClub and GraceLAN (via
e-mail). Here are the questions I'd like answered:

For DataClub:
Are there any known incompatibilities with it that are not incompatibilities
with AppleShare?
How fast is it, compared to TOPS?
Do you get that same old slowdown if someone is accessing your machine?
Is it compatible with System 7?
If it IS compatible with System 7, would it effectively work with publish
and subscribe across machines?
And, if it would, doesn't that make it much better than System 7's file
sharing setup with only 10 users available?

For GraceLAN:
What kinds of neato things does it do for a network manager?
How does it compare to Farallon's NetCheck and TrafficWatch?
Does it work on both LocalTalk and Ethernet?
Are there any compatibility problems that you know about?

Thanks in advance for any answers!

GraceLAN is far more sophisticated than these. It uses a custom responder to
give you realtime information about the files and hardware of macs on your net.
Call Technology works and get the free demo. It's pretty impressive. There
are several competitors in this market. These utilities start around $400
retail. I'd hold off for a few months on a purchase, several products are
still in the works for this type of monitoring.

Look for Technology Works adds in Macweek, MacWorld, or MacUser. They sell
memory products primarily, and have branched into this market reciently.
