Why should this be difficult? I've got a PC (Clone) and a Mac sitting next to each other, both of which have kermit on them (2.32A on the PC, I think, and 0.98 I think on the mac) but I can't figure out how to transfer a file between them with a serial cable...what's the trick? Thanks, Greg Sorensen sorensen@athena.mit.edu

How about the thought that you've got a bad null modem adapter...(it's killed things on my end...even brought a Sun clone multiuser system (the solborne) to it's knees, because it couldn't talk to it's console terminal...;) Borrow another adapter, and see what happens...;) \ Ken Corey, VAX/Unix Programmer/Operator (And GOD am I confused...;) / \ kenc@vaxb.acs.unt.edu ken@isect.lonestar.org /

Thanks for the responses, all. Most of the responses to my question about using kermit to transfer files included advice about a null modem cable, and using server mode on the PC. I've done both of these things, and in fact the server (PC) actually knows it is supposed to be receiving -- but can't do it. It retries till it quits. I was wondering if there was some obscure protocol change I had to do, handshaking, etc...I've tried most of the permutations. As for my cabling, I am using a null modem adapter between the cables, and while I don't remember the complete wiring for both Mac and PC cables, both the cables talk separately (without the null-modem adapter) to a modem and transfer via kermit to a remote machine just fine. Any clues? Thanks again, Greg Sorensen sorensen@athena.mit.edu
