Does anyone out there have a ZOO decoder for the mac? Or a way to convert ZOO to something I can use like BinHqx??? Or even a PC version that I can use (last resort). -- Johnathon Suker // This opinion and all others stated within are JSUKER@BONNIE.ICS.UCI.EDU// mine, and only mine! None of you can have them! Yes, there is a decompression utility named MacBooz that will decode Zoo archives. I _believe_ the latest flavor of it is v2.1. You should be able to find it on sumex, but if not it is available on my landline BBS (MacScience) on 408-866-4933. Ray

The ".zoo" format is the archive format used by the usenet comp.binaries.ibm.pc newsgroup. A simple decoder, "looz212.exe" by Rahul Dhesi, is included in uuencoded format in one of the monthly "Starter Kit" postings to c.b.i.p. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that ".zoo" is currently an MS-DOS-only phenomenon. -- Bill (johnston@minnie.me.udel.edu)

There is a copy of MacBooz 2.0 on rascal.ics.utexas.edu in /mac/utilities, and a copy of MacBooz 2.1 on isca.uiowa.edu in /mac/macintosh/util ... This is great, but I get "Permission Denied" from isca. Doesn't seem to be anywhere on sumex, umich, or wuarchive. I tried mail to "root" at isca; does anybody else have MacBooz 2.1 or know where to find it (besides Ray Terry's very busy BBS ...) ? (MacBooz is a useful thing for file sharing with both PCs and Amigas.) Bill (johnston@minnie.me.udel.edu)

I fixed the access rights to MacBooz 2.1 :) There are some other messed up access rights that will give this error in the mac/macintosh (and perhaps a few other) directory, this will be taken care of probably tomorrow after we first try and pinpoint why this happens. My theory is that when we archived some stuff on tape prior to getting the drive these files are on the access rights got changed when the files were restored. Anyway, this should be fixed Real Soon Now :) BTW, If you have any questions/comments/complaints about the Macintosh files on the ISCA BBS (which are the same as those accessed via anon ftp) mail either to macpd@icaen.uiowa.edu or to me, dsiebert@icaen.uiowa.edu. root won't respond about such things because we are networked into the Iowa Computer Aided Engineering Network, a network of about 140 or so Apollos, and so mail you send to root will likely be read by an Apollo sysadmin who may or may not feel like forwarding it to us! :) -- |-----------------------------|-----------------------------------------------| | Doug Siebert | "All opinions expressed herein are obviously | | | superior to yours, otherwise you wouldn't | | dsiebert@icaen.uiowa.edu | need to be reading this, now would you?" :-) | |-----------------------------|-----------------------------------------------|

I have seen TWO Shareware programs for the Mac that extract .zoo files.. one was called "MacBooz" and the other was "zoo-something" (I forgot the whole name) .. in addition, I beleave there is an UnStuffit Delux Module for un-zoo'ing ZOO files. I was really suprised I couldnt find ether of the two programs mentioned on ether sumex-aim.stanford.edu or mac.archive.umich.edu .. the files are about 3 years old, so that may be the reson.. but considering there are programs to extract .arc. .lzh, and .zip files, I dont see why .zoo has been given the shaft.. can anyone dig up those programs and put them on the two FTP sites mentioned?
