I am running MacTCP 1.0.1 with System 7, and I am using NCSA Telnet 2.4b12. Telnet 2.4b12 runs MUCH slower than Telnet 2.3 (MacTCP) under the same configuration. For example, it takes about 1 second to print 1 line of 80 column text on a machine literally next door. The speed is the same if I configure MacTCP to use LocalTalk through a Fastpath gateway or if I use EtherTalk through a board directly on the Ethernet. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? Brian Donnell NASA/JSC brian@krakatoa.jsc.nasa.gov

Does anyone know how to fix it? The latest version of Telnet finally made an attempt to fix the font problem that existed as far back as Telnet has existed. The developers did a complete overhaul of the font code. Though the problems with using different fonts and sizes went away (kudos to the developers), the code just is substantially slower. Hopefully next beta release will do a little optimization. It is beta, you know. :-) (Disclaimer: I have no connection with NCSA other than being an annoying beta-tester. :-)) pr -- Pete Resnick (...so what is a mojo, and why would one be rising?)
