We are a newspaper located on the Pacific Island of Saipan and we have a sister publication on the island of Belau. We want to send files back-and-forth with RELIABLE results. The lines are not the world's best and the costs high so we obviously want to "get on and get off" in a minimum time with no resends. B->. Here on Saipan we also want to create a daily faxed newspaper which keys to our weekly product (sort of a 'crippled USA Today concept.) I have been reading about the new class of modem with built-in compression, etc that will allow FAX SEND only. We don't need receive (nice to have, but we already have a fax machine) but do need software to build a "broadcast" file (otherwise we would just use the fax machine.). That way we could just push a few buttons and the software would send the pape from disk to subsribers one after the other. I was a pioneer with the Apple Fax modem and felt betrayed when Apple threw in the towel B-<. It was a good concept that worked with the right motivation (RIGHT BACKFAX?) Please e-mail recommendations, experiences, warnings, etc. If interest is there I'll summarize to the net.
