I would like to connect my Macintosh to my Unix box with a serial (RS-232) cable. I recall that this is not an exactly straightforward thing to do. There was a column on in Macinations in Byte last year I think, but I was unable to follow through. Two basic questions, I guess. First, what kind of cable or converter do I need? I tried connecting the simple null-modem cable that works with my PC to an ImageWriter cable. No go. (I'm sure that is obvious to someone. :-) Second, what kind of software do I need? The programs I am familiar with (ZTerm, Freeterm, and one other I can't remember the name of) all expect to dial out over a phone, which doesn't work real well in this context.
