[comp.sys.mac.games] Quartstaff help!

andy@gistdev.gist.com (Andy Warinner) (06/27/90)

I have some assorted questions about Quarterstaff. Hints and spoilers
would be greatly appreciated!

- Is it possible to get the "Wild Wizard" to join your party?

- What is the best way to deal with the Chief Torturer and the
  druid guard?

- How do you get the items (quarterstaff, potions, etc...) from the
  sarcophagus of the Grand Druid?

- How do you get to the lower levels? I think I have been through
every room on level one (including the Mud and Treasure rooms) but
I haven't found any way to level two. I would prefer hints not spoilers
  on this one.

Thanks in advance!

Gosh! Another game I beta-tested...

Uh, mild spoilers follow... hit 'n' now to skip 'em...

I don't think so. You can kiss him and smile at him all you want, but
I've never gotten him to join and I've never heard of him joining.

Heh. Lock the druid guard in the manacles -- you must do this first.
It might take a couple of tries, but it's certainly worth it. Once
the druid guard is incapacitated, beat the living hell out of the
chief torturer. (S)he isn't going to do much damage with the whip,
save un-wielding your weapons for you. Once (s)he is dead, just
dispose of the incapacitated druid guard. (<-- good for raising
proficiencies.)

Gosh... it's been a while since I've played, but here's a suggestion...
Down in the southern part of level one there's a spiral passage.
Explore it. Revealing hint: you might want the explorer to be wearing
the ring of levitation.

Cheers...

I've never been able to do it.

I've found it is easiest to deal with the Torturer first. Then, the druid
won't run into the cage.

Go inside it. (e.g. enter sarcophagus)

Hmmm. Perhaps. I know we got th Insane Druid to join our party once we had
taken the Sword away from him.

We locked one or both of them up in shackles.

Can't remember. (Player over a year ago). Perhaps you don't. But I know
that's wrong, I think.

Hmmm. Seems to me that you kinda "fall" into it. You probably just haven't
gone the right way yet. Boy, you still gotta lot ahead of you.

Is there such a thing as a complete book or list of all the things you
can do in Quarterstaff? I've completed it, but I know I missed tons of
stuff. I never found the secret room the Hint said was there, I found
no use for a lot of the objects. My exploration just feels so
incomplete, and I felt a let-down at the end.

Can anyone offer any help with this?
