A few weeks ago I posed some questions pertaining to what guage trains to buy since I am starting from scratch. I have a 3 year old boy. After much investigating (discussions, articles, Walthers catalogs, etc.) I decided Lionel O guage is probably best for me. Answers to the following questions would be greatly appreciated. 1) Are the new lionel engines that run on ac and dc as good as the old ac engines. 2) Does anybody discount new lionel equipment (I did not some differece in prices). 3) Should I buy a starter train set (track, powersupply, etc.) or should I buy piece by piece. 4) I like 0 guage vs. 027 even though the switch tracks and other accessories seem to be more expensive. Is 0 worth the difference ? 5) What happened to super 0, are the tracks still being made. 6) Do any other companies make Lionel compatible equipment ? 7) What about old transformers (power packs) should I invest in a rebuilt ZW ? Why doesn't lionel make them anymore. 8) Is the new lionel trains, track and accessories as good as in the 50's? There is a wonderful Lionel train musuem/store and 0 guage working layout in Hazlet N.J. I tried asking these questions of the owener. Obviously his answers were biased. Jonathan M.
