[comp.sys.mac.games] More Quarterstaff Spoilers Wanted

adam@media-lab.MEDIA.MIT.EDU (Adam Glass) (07/10/90)

I have a couple of questions about Quarterstaff. I'm looking for spoilers.

If you haven't gotten too far in Quarterstaff, you might not want to
read on, as there may be spoilers below.

o What does the ornate ring do? It just changes color on me...
o Do the Succubus' Mithral Earrings and Mithral Bracelet *do* anything?
o Why did a million things glow when Eolene drank the Detect Evil potion?
o Why does the Ring of Sustenance say "Hurts so Good"?
o Is there any way to get Rufo or Boffo to join your party?
o Is there a secret room north of the L Hall?
o Is it just me, or does the Smoky potion (from The Punker and Spike
Slipshod) not work? I drank it and didn't get teleported...
o Is there a good reason to use the Thick potion? Dirk can just pick the
lock to get into the ash room, and I already know the mine layout...
o What are the various torques good for?
o What's the best blunt weapon? The Mithral Mace? The Nasty Mace?
The Redwood Staff? The {Maple, Oak, Ash, etc} Quarterstaff?
o I've killed: The Chief Torturer, The Druid Guard, The Huge Spider, The
Wild Wizard, The Insane Druid, The Grue, Peave, The Chief Priest, The
Succubus, Rufo, Boffo, The Punker and Spike Slipshod -- I've basically
cleared the first two levels (with the exception of the Granite Statue,
The Gelatinous Cube and Dirk, the latter of which is in my party.)
-- What do I do know? I can go down the stairs to the east of the
library, but what's down there? Just smokey, misty and foggy rooms,
as far as I can tell. Help! Help! What do I do next?

Thanks in advance.

Not to my knowledge.

I couldn't do it.

>o Is there a secret room north of the L Hall?

Yes, yes! I had a question about this a couple of weeks ago, but it went
unanswered...

I found no use for it, for the same reason.

>o What are the various torques good for?

The torques are an indication of druid rank. The gold(?) torque worn by the
druid in the upstairs area of the temple indicates that he is/was the
highest-ranking druid in the colony.

I'm not positive, but I think that the mithral weapons are generally the
"best," though they are heavier.. (just wait until you find the mithral
broadsword..yow)

				I never found him/her.

The Cube is easy enough to kill-- use throwing or shooting weapons from nearby
rooms; fire is also a good weapon against the cube.

This is where the _real_ fun begins! That's level 3, where things get a little
nastier. Those foggy rooms form a small, simple maze. You should be able to
find a safe way through if you're careful. Alternatively, you could try
donning those white goggles (with no lenses) the high druid (in the temple) was
carrying. They have magnificent fog-penetrating powers...

While I'm posting on QS, I'll repeat my other unanswered question: Anyone know
how to get the Staff of Life to work? Do I have to invoke it somehow?
