[comp.sys.mac.games] Info on Falcon v2.2

tejtemw@ioe.lon.ac.uk (EARL WILLIAMS) (07/17/90)

The latest version of the flight simulator Falcon (for the Mac) is 2.2,
not 2.1 as some recent posts have suggested. Here are some excerpts from
the "Macintosh Version 2.2 Addendum" that comes with the upgrade:

Hardware/Software Compatibility

Falcon 2.2 is now compatible with the Mac Plus, SE, SE/30, II, IIx, IIcx,
IIci, IIfx, and the Portable.

Mac Falcon will also run with most video cards and external monitors;
however, while using the latter, the menu bar will stay visible during play.
Because of this, Ground Control messages (that would normally appear
during a game) will not be seen when Falcon is played on an external
monitor.

Falcon operates under Multifinder if you have 2 megs of RAM or more, but
the size resource of the program file must be increased first....to 1024K.

Additions to Falcon 2.2

Mid-air collisions are now an all-to-certain reality. No longer will MiGs
warp into hyperspace if they come too close!

Ground Control now recognizes you as an individual rather than assigning
you the generic title of "Bluebird."

When playing over a modem, the phone will now hang up if "Single Player"
is selected from the Communications menu. In addition, the computer will
send Hayes AT commands to your modem before dialing out.

Some of the Ejection rules have been changed for the higher ranks. If
you have sustained no engine or HUD damage and you eject or "End Mission"
at Major rank or higher, you will be court-martialed.

Plane Performance

When you maneuver sharply in the upper ranks of the program, expect your
F-16 to "bleed off" (decrease) airspeed in the process.

The Ever-Persistent Mig-21

If the conditions are right, the enemy may send more MiGs to engage you
(even if you have already shot down the number you selected in the
Maximum # of MiGs options).
