[comp.sys.mac.games] Deja Vu II Help

sarwate@ux1.cso.uiuc.edu (07/31/90)

I am massively stuck on Deja Vu II. I'm at that point where nothing
seems to work, and I feel that just one little nudge would poke me in
the right direction.

Ok, here's where I am. I figured out the casino (Rudy), bought my ticket
to Chicago, got to my apartment, went to Joe's Bar, got the diary, went
to Sugar's, got the cop's uniform, went to the morgue, got the box, went
to Bondswell's house, went back to the station, returned to Vegas, got the
suitcase, found the envelope and photo. Now I'm stuck.

I need to know the following:
Did I miss anything in Chicago?
Is the note about the Nordic Shoe factory of any importance?
If so, how do I get to the Nordic Shoe Factory?
How do I get rid of the bum in front of the tenement?
How can I see Captain Carlston?
Is there anything important in the Laundromat?
How do I get to the fifth floor?
Any help would be MOST appreciated. Thanks much!

I solved the game, and can now help anyone who needs it. I have also solved
Deja Vu I and Shadowgate for those who need help on those. Thanks much
to Paul Snively (chewy@apple.com) for his assist.

Having been the lead programmer for Deja Vu II helps a lot, of course. ;-)

Note: please, please, please don't mail me with your requests for help.
Post here, and when I have time, I'll read them. Thanks!

Apologies for use of net space - my mailer has been saying "nnyyyaahh" to
me lately...

Will any/all of those who have advertised a willingness to help poor
souls like me who are stuck on Shadowgate please mail me spoilers?
(I am receiving mail fine - just can't send it.)

I am more or less stuck at the beginning - I can dispell the wraith with
the special torch, but then I am confronted with about 10 puzzles at
once (a dragon, two different doors out of my reach, and more...) and
I don't know which one I need to solve next. I'm afraid that I keep
trying to solve the wrong ones - ie, I probably need to solve them in
a particular order to have the necessary tools at each step.

By the way, I discovered a neat bug (oxymoron?) in Shadowgate that lets
you take one of the things in the dragon's pile without getting toasted.
They must've been using Paul's Deja Vu II code there :-)

Thanks,
Joe Francis

Nah, but if there's a bug, I'm embarrassed--Shadowgate was done during my
playtesting days. Actually, I believe that the state machine for the
dragon allows one item to be taken before you get flamed, the idea being
that you need to be able to get the shield without getting toasted in the
process. After that, I believe that all important (i.e. guarded) items
get you torched when you drag them.

And I can't claim all of the credit for Deja Vu II by a long shot! Check
out the "About..." box for the full picture, but my special thanks go to
Mitch Adler, Steve Hays, and Brian Baker who really lent major, major
hands with the coding.
