[comp.sys.mac.games] need citadel help

dchang@umn-cs.cs.umn.edu (Douglas Chang) (08/09/90)

I need some hints for Citadel. I cant seem to get anywhere. I had a
group of characters, but they fell down a shaft and died. I started a
new group, but the shop seems to have run out of items (the 1st group
bought them all??). There seems to be no where to go except down
these shafts where I fall and die (Are there secret/invisible doors I
am missing?) and there are no monsters to combat. (Are they NO
wandering monsters?) The documentation is scanty at best. Any hints
about the early stages (just out of the nursery) of the game would be
appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Citadel is a HUGE game. Some friends and I are just about to finish it
(after working through half the term and all of the summer).

Pits are bad news. Don't fall down them unless you have mondo hit points
because you never know how far you will fall.

there is an elevator starting on the first level. This may be what you
are falling down.

Once you buy weapons, they will never reappear in the shop except
plate mail. A new set of plate mail will appear every either day
or week... day, I think.

Try to start with studly characters. Knights are the best to start
with, but you will need a Magus or wizard as well.

Good starting setup:
Mother: Milkmaid
Father: Labourer
Race: Dwarven
Gender: Male (doesn't really matter)
Alignment: Good (doesn't really matter)
With this setup, if you position your hours right, you should get
a knight on the first time through.

If you think I've given ANYTHING away you're sorely mistaken. You
have a very long road in front of you- Enjoy it.

One more thing: combat may take a little getting used to. There are
wandering monsters. Take extra torches everywhere. And READ THE
MANUAL. COVER TO COVER.

Good Luck...
