I've been having a lot of fun with Citadel, but am kind of stuck right now, in spite of posessing the hints booklet. (minor spoilers follow) I've explored everything through the sixth level so far, but that damn magic mouth that blows out your torches on the way to the seventh level has me stumped. I know I'm supposed to be able to use the crystal ball that I found as a light, but I can't get the thing to work. "Rubbing" the icon for the ball with the mouse while it's in the view window or while "inspecting" it doesn't seem to do anything. At first, I thought it might be because there are no good members of my party (except for Fra Elsof, the NPC), so I created a good wizard and had him try it (both at camp and in the citadel), to no avail. There doesn't seem to be any other way to get past -- I've tried going down to the seventh level in the dark, but I get attacked by beasties, and even if I defeat them, there's a wizard somewhere (Nequilar?) who just keeps blasting my party with attack spells until everybody's dead. Many thanks. -- jeremy@quito.stat.washington.edu

Once you've acquired the crystal ball, double click on it so that it is now filling the center of your screen. If you bring the mouse cursor over it you will notice that it changes to a pointing hand (like the "browse tool" in HyperCard). Hold down the mouse key and rub the ball several times with the pointing finger, this should cause Nequilar to find you, but it WILL illuminate the crystal ball. Now you won't need torches, but you will probably be attacked more frequently by monsters. Good Luck! Jim Collymore
