[comp.sys.mac.games] Help! Solarian II Challenge rounds

rq02+@andrew.cmu.edu (Richard Quadrel) (08/22/90)

On level 12 (and I think on level 10 also) I always get killed during the
challenge round. First the blue guys come down in that long sweeping
pattern, then the white guys play clay-pigeon shoot-out and then a
death pentagon comes from the left and an orange arrow comes from above...
and "..dat's all she wrote" The pentagon always crashes into me.

Shields don't work in the challenge round, so how do you avoid dying?

Also... is there a more-or-less foolproof way of shooting ALL of the circles
in challenge rounds 6 and 8? Tracking them from left to right always seems
to miss one or two for me...
Thanks!
Rich

umm, you've got to move quickly to the extreme right and then after the
danger passes move quickly extreme left and then after that move back to
dead center (and then after a round of zig-zagging terror you've got to
get the two dropping balls). the only thing i can't manage yet is the
initial blue guys in the symmetrical sweeping pattern. haven't figured
out a strategy for that yet ...

are steady hands foolproof? i've been known to "win" the 6/8 challenge
rounds (the bonus is slightly better than the 2/4 bonus).

i track the left ones slowly from left to right (starting at the extreme
left minus about 2 solarian ship widths and usually finish in just enough
time to track the right ones slowly from right to left that are now on
top of me.

hope this helps.
