[comp.sys.mac.games] Problems with SimCity. Please help!

rbl@nitrex.UUCP ( Dr. Robin Lake ) (09/02/90)

I just bought a copy of SimCity for my son's birthday. It is tagged
Macintosh V1.2 Monochrome 512e,+,SE,Mac II, IIx, IICx. Not for IIci.
Includes printer option No disk-based copy protection.

When we run it, we are unable to connect powerlines to residential areas.
In the "Pause" mode, planes crash and earthquakes happen, even without
airports. This happens very quickly and then the Message Window says
"Copy protect failure". It does not matter whether we run from the original
floppy, backup floppy or hard disk. System is a 2.5M Mac Plus running
System 6.0.1.

I'm hoping a kind soul can get back to me via e-mail before the long weekend
is over, when we'll call the vendor for help.

Thanks,
Rob Lake

It sounds to me like you failed the document-check at the beginning,
and the game, thinking you are a software pirate, is punishing you. I have
not played the Mac version, but in the IBM version, after about 20 seconds of
starting the game, a window pops up asking you to type in certain population
figures from the manual. If you cannot enter them correctly, the game starts
to rain disaster on you.
