[comp.sys.mac.games] Race-car simulators--any good ones?

garye@bcstec.UUCP (Gary Eng) (10/02/90)

Does anyone out there in netland found any good (realistic)
race-car simulators. I am particulary intgerested in
Indy Car or Formula 1 competition simulators.

I bought Ferrari GP (Bullseye ?), but I do not like it,
because it does not have throttle control, which seems
unrealistic to me.

Has anyone tried Grand Prix Circuit? How was it?

Replies via e-mail, please.

On the contrary, I really enjoyed Ferrari Grand Prix, even though
it doesn't really have a throttle control. The F1 really
responds to the slightest touch, as it should when you're going
over 150 mph. I really feel tired, both physically and mentally,
after going 5-10 laps. As far as simulators go, Ferrari GP rates
a 7 out of 10. Too bad Bullseye don't have an enhanced, color
version for Mac IIs, then judging by its past history, Ferrari GP
would surely get a 8 or 9 in my book.

It, and a lot of the Accolade ports--not that there are a lot of
them in the first place!!--from the IBM PC world, is a total
disappointment. The program, while it has "better" sound than
the PC version, doesn't have support color--it plays on a II
however; but you're stuck with the small screen, a total waste of
the Mac II's capabilities. Playability is awful with the keyboard.
There are minor bugs in the program. I would say that the games
like Grand Prix Circuit and Test Drive 2 are ~5 on a scale from 1
to 10. They are not even competitive in terms of quality when
compared to something like Solarian. Maybe it's hard for the
company to port stuff to the Mac, maybe they're too lazy; whatever
the reason, I recommend against purchasing ported stuff unless
you've spent a good deal of time trying it out as far as games are
concerned.
