Anyone out there have a comment on Sky Shadow? I've read reviews of it in MacWorld and MacUser and it sounds like fun. Any reviews from real gamesters? -- Jeffrey A. IMABHO (In my anything-but-humble opinion), it's a great game -- the graphics, animation, and sound are all terrific. Having started things off on a positive note, let's now discuss some flaws: 1. Apparently, it is not compatible with the 32-bit Quickdraw patch used with all but the latest version or two of the System software. It runs fine on my friend's IIx, but not on mine; I can attribute problem with the 32-bit Quickdraw patch. Perhaps I should upgrade to 6.0.8, or whatever the latest version is, but right now I haven't the time. I haven't tried it on any of the newer Macs, so I can't say how it behaves with those. 2. It refuses to run on screens set to 8- or 24-bit color modes. 3. The nearly constant, very rapid typing motions required to rack up decent scores is a great way to inflict repetitive-motion (carpal tunnel) syndrome on yourself. Don't play this game for long stretches, and don't play it at all if you have "pins and needles" in your knuckles and fingers. Of course, getting the Constant Firing goody helps releive things a bit. ;-) On the whole, it's a great game; even better than Crystal Quest (one of Cassidy and Greene's earlier games); wherein there was a small incentive for exercising care in firing (in order to avoid destroying the bonus crystal which would from time to time appear). In Sky Shadow, you have bases scattered amongst the enemy territory; if you hit one of these friendly spots you loose the entire score you have accumulated for that ship. Your ship says "Ouch!" when you get hit by a bad guy (or hit a mine), and things like "Yeah!" when picking up a goody. My favorite sound is when you swoop down to shoot at enemy targets in a hole; you hear a "Yahoo!" reminiscent of Slim Pickens's in _Dr Strangelove_ as he rode down on the back of a Hydrogen Bomb. You can really rack up alot of points there. C ========================================================================== C === This subroutine will write a signature at the end of a posting.
