Hi everyone, I've been playing Strategic Conquest since it came out with those "fat" macs. I have recently upgraded my system to a Mac IIci and my Strat Con v 1.3 doesn't work any more. (Of Course I knew but I figured the gains of having a fast Mac would out-weigh not being able to play Strat Con). Well I know that Strat Con Version 2 is out and about and I called one of the mail order places and they said that PSI wasn't shipping it anymore. I called the PSI phone number and got a recording saying that it was no longer in service. Well. The questions are: Does anyone know of where to get a copy of 2.0 these days? Has PSI gone under? How is version 2.0 of Strat Con? Has anyone tried it on a Portrait monitor? Thanks for any info. If you will answer back to me I will summarize for everyone else. Dan LaSota

I bought Strat Con 2.0xx (whatever it is) and it works fine on my ci. Although the color isn't very impressive (yeah, it's 4-bit color...or maybe 2-bit), but still adds a little something to the game. I'm not sure where to get the game other than the mail order places like MacZone, MacConnection, and (if desperate) MacWarehouse. MacConnection (1-800-334-4444) has it advertised in the latest issue of MacWorld for $34 from a company called Premier Technology (???). I got a copy for the MACII when 2.0 came out. Color helps a lot (green land, blue water) but it is not great. I have used it on a large Radius monitor where you can see almost the whole world.

Here's a great idea for setting up a virtual large screen for playing Strategic Conquest. Use Stepping Out II. Make a custom size large screen that is 1464 x 928 pixels. Then "resize edges" so that the menubar and area right under it that displays all the messages are locked to the top of the monitor. This way when you move the pointer around, only the map scrolls. It makes for moving around the world very quick without the pain of scrollbars. You can also use the 50% reduction feature of Stepping Out II to view the whole world on a 13" monitor. It's even possible to play that way. David Bolling (slart@pawl.rpi.edu)

Why doesn't SC 2.0 have handicap levels in two players game? Is there something wrong with my program? Phillip Ng v119mb9h@ubvmsa.cc.buffalo.edu

Is there a way of restoring 2-player games that are started with Appletalk Master and Slave? They seem to find each other, but when the Master is trying to load the map onto the Slave, I get a 'Network Error' and then the game bombs. Also, is it a feature or a bug that I am not limited to 2 attacks per piece? I.e., I can have as many attacks as I have moves, while the computer is limited to at most 2 attacks per piece. Just curious. Some of my friends think it's like cheating, but I think it's part of the game, especially when I'm not playing the computer. Thanks for any help or info. -- /------------------------------------------------------------------\ | Anil Saxena asaxena@usceast.cs.scarolina.edu | | THE USC "What good is a Trojan without a Cock?" | \------------------------------------------------------------------/

I did some calling around a few months ago, and it is not possible. The person I eventually reached, who was acting on behalf of the distributor, said that it was possible. His directions, on the other hand, did not work. I and some dedicated friends tried every possible permutation of events to bring a game back, but it is like trying to wake the dead. Network games are a rare and strange breed. I hope to see more of them. The problems with movement you describe are normal. It is one of the things the game retains from the game it was based on, I beleive. The only thing I have ever noticed that seems to be a bug is pretty sneaky. I noticed that on the higher levels, the enemy can produce an army every two turns. Not in the rules, but it makes it all the more interesting to seige distant cities. orpheus@reed
