"It doesn't matter that the little old lady in question probably saved herself from physical harm, if not death, from these up- standing young gentlemen." HEY! How about thinking of the victim for once. I'm getting sick and tired of hearing all the bleeding heart liberal garbage of protecting the criminals rights. Some- where the rights of the victims have been forgotten. I am not saying that we should all go back to the days of the Old West and carry our Colt 45's, however let us not make the victim of a mugging, robbery, etc., a second victim just because they protected themselves from a crime. Scott E. Farleigh ATTIS Denver p.s. Please send mail to /dev/null. Despite my feelings about "bleeding heart liberals", I can't attribute the ignoring of victims to them. I attribute it to mere (but utterly blatant) stupidity, compounded with a healty dose of paranoia (the other guy can't be trusted), selfishness (it's not ME, and she might hit me), and fear(but if a LOL has a gun, what about that big <fillin>). Somehow, I don't think that most of the peole who make statements like that really understand that taking guns away from everybody will REALLY only take guns away from LAW ABIDING CITIZENS! Then, the only two groups that will have guns will be criminals and rednecks. Somehow, I don't think that's any improvement. Please move comments/disputatious remarks to net.flame. I'll be there. rabbit!jj

#R:rabbit:-187800:hp-pcd:4100003:000:478 hp-pcd!john Aug 31 13:30:00 1983 There is a bit of irony in the gun control laws that would require everyone to register their firearms. Current federal laws prohibit criminals and convicted felons from possessing firearms and the constitution prohibits the goverment from forcing anyone to incriminate themselves. Therefore criminals would be exempt from gun control registration laws because to force them to comply would be forcing them to convict themselves of a crime. John Eaton hplabs!hp-pcd!john

No, the fact that the criminal did not register the illegal gun simply gives the prosecutor one more book to throw. Use of an illegal gun in the act of a felony is often given a harder sentence than the felony itself might get. Sort of a double jeapardy operation. Frank Webb The unruffled sage
