Another AmtraK trip which is genuinely practical for business travel is the Broadway from western Pennsylvania to Chicago. Board at Pittsburgh around midnight; a beer in the club car; 20 minutes in the dome watching the signals change; fold down the bed; breakfast watching Valparaiso roll by; and step out of Union Station in time for a morning meeting. Sure beats those 5am trips to the airport.

Agreed, the Pittsburgh to Chicago trip is practical (though the after midnight departure isn't as nice as the Executive Sleeper.) However, have you ever tried to take the Broadway from Chicago TO Pittsburgh. Yecch! The omygod in the morning arrival time makes it ridiculously impractical. Since airfares are discounted on a roundtrip basis I almost never am able to take the train to Chicago and fly back.
