Are you sure they aren't just advertising to someone that is playing a
friend's copy?  This would seem a more legitimate reason for putting
it there.  It would be senseless to give an address and a notice at
the end if you ALREADY have it...  I can see the dialogue going on in
the user's mind now...

"Let's see...  I have a copy now, but if I want my OWN copy, I just
have to write to this address and send them money.  That sounds like a
good idea.."

Yeah, right.
