[net.railroad] axle loads

Besides North America, Australia (basically an American style rail system
with a few odd gauges to make things interesting) has some lines with
very high axle loadings. The Mt. Newman mining railway comes to mind.
They beat up their rail faster than most any railroad in the world.
China has some relatively heavy cars too, though nothing like the states.
(China is another American engineered railway system.)
re: Army Corps - Railway maintenance.
I believe they still have a railway battalion, but in wartime they'd be
better off drafting Amtrak's NEC track crews. (Josh Lepman, an Amtrak
track supervisor friend of mine, would probably take a swing at me for
that.)
