I think somewhere in the Army someone still knows how to build and repair track. The local army reserve (Washington, PA) used to be into something similar; we got them to set poles to hold up trolley wire at the Arden Trolley Museum. Subsequently the Army reclassified their function. The Valley Railroad (Conn.) used to have a similar deal with local reserve units around there. --Dave
