[comp.sys.mac.games] Wayne Gretzky Hockey

gilbert@grad1.cis.upenn.edu (Michael Gilbert) (12/28/90)

I just recently acquired Wayne Gretzky Hockey while in vacation in NJ
(my parents live there, OK? :) ). It's an excellent game (simulation
as they say), but it does seem to have a few quirks. I was curious if
anyone else has seen it or has any comments on it. I can post a more
in-depth review if I have time, and if there's interest.

I have heard some things about this game, but not enough to really get
a grasp of what it is or how good it is. Does it have any competition?
(i.e. any other good hockey game/simulators out there?) Are the bugs
enough to discourage people from playing it?

Also, does it work on the IIci?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanx in advance,

Hello again. I will now state all that I have found out about
Wayne Gretzky Hockey for the Mac.
I went to Egghead Software today with the intention of buying
WGH2 and possibly the Hockey League Simulator, only to find
that they don't exist for the Macintosh. Wayne Gretzky Hockey
(the original one) does exist but I have read about some bugs
on this very newsgroup, so I didn't buy it.

Also, it said "For the Mac + and above", which usually means it
crashes on the IIci. I got the number for Bethesda and called
to ask about any forthcoming versions, and they said (I quote)

"There are no plans to release WGH2 or the HLS for the Macintosh
at all."

I just thought that I would share this with you all, as I sit here
wondering where I can get a really good hockey game for the Mac.
Those of you who play WGH on a Mac, is it worth it? Does it
run on a IIci?

Jonathan

Anyone playing it out there? Did you get the color version? Is it
worht the $10? I'm sending for it.

One question:

How the hell do you play faceoffs? I always lose them!

Another: TO check, pass, grabs, and shoot is ALL done with a mouse
click? How do you differenytiate between checking a guy and grabbing
him?

I see that someone already have this game. I heard rave reviews for it
in the MS-DOS world. How is it in the Mac? What is the minimum hardware/
system requirement? What is the price and where could one obtain it? Could
someone who had played this game thoroughly write a review on this game?

I heard that recently someone had posted a very detail and informative review
on Wayne Gretzky Hockey. Unfortunately, I missed the posting and was wondering
if the author of that posting could repost the review. Also others who had
experience with the game is welcome to send in their opinions. You can either
post it at this newsgroup or e-mail it directly to me, thank you.
