Eric Albright asks: >After seeing the postings here I am sure that Harpoon is a game that I >want. The question is if it is fast enough on the plus? Or will it just be >annoyingly slow? I've played Harpoon on both a Mac II and a Plus. The speed decrement is playable. First, the first half of the senarios use few units. I spent several days playing them over and over, translating the tactics I have read about to game activities. For example: o Don't send out ASW P-3 Orions without air cover. o Don't have ships travelling too fast for the sonar to work. o Don't use active radar/sonar unless you have good reason to. Second, the game has time compression built in. You can set the progress rate from 1 sec = 1 sec (useful for watching air combat) 5, 30 sec, 1,5,10, and 30 minutes (useful when you want ships to get from place to place). On a Plus, there is no difference between the last 3 settings - it just chugs along as fast as it can. There is a crashing bug with Pluses, that the company says will be fixed in the next upgrade - call them for details. When I stopped my screen saver, and MultiFinder, they stopped happening. There is a Harpoon mailing list. Send to cz-request@pram.cs.ucla.edu to get added. Have fun, Carl Hommel carlton@apollo.hp.com
