[comp.sys.mac.games] Source for some Infocom games

gt0831c@prism.gatech.EDU (William Moss) (02/17/91)

Starting off with the disclaimer: I have no affiliation with this
store except as a satisfied customer. I am posting this because there
are many people on the net who are looking for a source of Infocom
games. If you have a similar source please email me or post to the net.

The store's name is:
     Software $5 and $10
     (somewhere on) Jimmy Carter Blvd.
     Atlanta, Georgia
     (404) 242-6633

They take orders over the phone. They do ship orders.

The games listed below are $10 each. Some games are shrink-wrapped
and some are not, if this makes a difference to you then you might
want to specifically ask for a shrink-wrapped copy. If you have a
game you might like to trade instead of buy, email to my account
and I would be delighted to trade for something I don't have.
(I'm currently looking for: Beyond Zork, Enchanter, Sorcerer,
Moonmist, Suspect, The Infocom Sampler, any Infocomics, Fooblitzky)

They also have a large selection of invisiclues (not necessarilly
for the games listed below) for $5 each.

They don't deal solely in Infocom stuff. For the mac, they also
have SDI, Kings of Chicago, Defenders of the Crown, and 101
Scripts and Buttons for Hypercard (1.x). They carry much more
software for other computers Apple ][, Amiga, and IBM.

Listed Below:
Starcross, Ballyhoo, Trinity, Infidel, The Witness, Suspended,
Planetfall, Stationfall, Spellbreaker, Wishbringer, Hollywood Hijinx

This is a compiled list of the software I have purchased from
Software $5 & $10. Some of it is quite old. The good thing is
that you get lots of documentaion. The bad things are that you
can't boot off of the disk (at least I can't) because of the
old systems on them. Some have trouble working with the HFS
(Heirarchal File System as opposed to MFS), saving and restoring
games is no problem, just format a floppy disk as single sided
(which makes the disk MFS) and save your games to it. I have
had no problems putting these games on a HFS formatted hard disk;
except for the fact that some of these games are copyprotected
and require you to insert the master disk when starting the game.
For the disks with this copy protection it also makes it
impossible to backup the disks. (ASIDE: If any one knows a way
to get around this, I would be most grateful for your help).
All of the games run on my machine a Mac IIcx running the latest
system software (System 6.0.7). The only bombs which have
occured are purely cosmetic in nature and don't effect gameplay
at all (quitting bombs some old games with an address
error, choosing About Infocom bombs the more recent ones because
Infocom tried to get fancy their about box and 32-bit color
quickdraw doesn't take too kindly to that.)

Well, here is the list...

bait and alland marched right over to the recruitment station near your home
on the backwater planet of Gallium. Images of exotic worlds, strange and
colorful aliens, and Deep Space heroism was scrubbing down the radioactive

Science Fiction - Expert Level by Michael Berlyn

They said you would sleep for half a millennium -- not an unreasonable
length of time, considering you'd be in limited cryogenic suspension. Your
body would rest frozen at the planet's nerve center, an underground complex
20 miles beneath the surface. Your brain, they told you, would be wired
to
a network of computers; your mind would continue to operate at a minimal
level, overseeing maintenance of surface-side equilibrium. And you would
not awake, so they promised, until your 500 years had elapsed -- barring, of
course, the most dire emergency.
Then, and only the, would you be awakened to save your planet by
strategically manipulating six robots, each of whom perceives the world
differently. But such a catastrophe, you have been assured, could not
possibly occur.
   Good morning.
