[comp.sys.mac.games] SimEarth Bug/Feature

spike@eleazar.dartmouth.edu (Corby Page) (03/03/91)

I had an interesting experience with SimEarth the other day. After a dinosaur
exodus, I brought robots to sapience. When I received the notice that I
was entering the Civilization Time Scale, the robots achieved industrial
revolution! They made exodus without ever reaching the Technology Time Scale
(according to the game). Is this supposed to happen?

Just Curious,

Believe it or not, this is a feature!

Seems the guys reponsible for the game (one of whom I chatted with at
the last MacWorld Expo) decided that if there are all these organic
possibilities for life and intelligence possible - even odd ones like
trichords - then there was no reason that sentient robots could not
arise! In order to get them, apparently you have to have a planet
with LOTS of pollution and little art - they start as normal "animals",
and swiftly take over. Once these guys get in, nothing else has a
chance, aspecially since the things can live ANYWHERE.

Something new for the SimEarth players to try for!
