[net.railroad] Mileposts and train speed

BJORK@SU-SCORE.ARPA (Steven Bjork) (01/27/86)

The SP timetable from 1979 I have lists a table on the back
that is used in the following manner. Note the time that you
pass the next milepost. At the next milepost, note the time
again. Calculate the elapsed seconds between the two mileposts,
and look up the entry in the table. This gives the speed in MPH.
I clocked the Coast Starlight in November; but I don't have the
numbers at hand.
