Thought I would respond to a few things that have been on lately. RR songs: How about "Southern Pacific" by Neil Young (his Reactor album) "Atchison,Topeka, and Santa Fe" from the movie HarveyGirls, ca 1950 "We Can Handle It" not really a complete song, but the theme from Union Pacific RR TV and radio commercials ca late 1970's. Tv commercials had some good visuals. These were commercials I enjoyed watching! RR movies: "Closely Watched Trains" Czech, ca 1968 good eastern European steam "Runaway" Made for TV movie, ca 1970 or so. Filmed on Rio Grande, train loses its brakes going down the mountain, "Posiedon Adventure" on rails. "Terror on the Shoreliner" Another made for TV film, ca 1980. Filmed on AMTRAK in Conn(?). Disgruntled former employee sabotages dispatching system, leaving train with VP of US aboard on collision course with another train. "Bullet Train" Japanese, ca ? Similiar plot to above, good shots of Bullet trains. Left Hand Running: According to book C&NW Steam Power, C&NW runs on left track because: when the railroad double tracked, all the stations were on the left side of the tracks. To avoid patrons having to cross a track when the second was put in, management decided to run left handed. Hope this posting enlightened and confused you all. -- Bruce Fingerhood School Of Electrical Engineering Cornell University Ithaca,NY 14853 (607) 256 8588 ARPA: brucef@tesla.ARPA UUCP: decvax!cornell!tesla!brucef {decvax,vax135,uw-beaver}!cornell!tesla!brucef
