Rich, you are looking in the wrong publications, MacUser, MacWorld,
for education and game information????? I am the editor of a
publication by the GAMER Project called the "Excellence in Amusement
Roster" (latest update is v91.3) which is devoted to the topics of
entertainment/game/educational/kid's software on the Mac, both
shareware and commercial. The publication is available on America
Online, CompuServe, GEnie, available by Fidonet FREQ from 396/13 as
EAR913.SIT, and very soon FTP from Sumex (thanks to Ken Hancock our
Usenet/Internet distributor). There are at least two articles that
cover in depth the question you are asking. I would have to re-read
them to give you a definitive answer, but Katie's Farm, McGee, and
KidsTime would be programs to look at. For Math, NumberMaze is great!

I believe the "Excellence in Amusement Roster" v1.5 was on Sumex
available via FTP, however (note new numbering system) v91.3 is far
more comprehensive than the previous version...v91.6 will likewise
will be more comprehensive, then we will move to a more modular
philosophy where quarterly modules with all new materials will be
released (March,June,Sept,Dec) and a comprehensive YEARBOOK of all
four issues released the soon after the Dec. issue.

So try to track down the most recent issue of the "Excellence in
Amusement Roster", it is a freeware publication.
