Well, Bane of the Cosmic Forge arrived today from MacConnection. I haven't had a chance yet to try it out, since it won't work with a 24-bit card or, it would appear, with the LC I have at work. I did install it onto my hard disk (from *six* floppies) before I discovered this, and noticed that many of the files have .ega and .cga extensions, so they didn't bother with changing file names when they ported it over to the Mac. In Black and White mode I was able to at least get the game to start up, but it wouldn't continue to run. It repeatedly crashed the machine in 16-color mode, and wouldn't even get to the game's startup screen. Tonight I'll try it on my home machine, where it should run. I'm wondering, does this mean the game won't run on any of the newer machines with built-in video? At least it's no longer vaporware, but isn't that pretty short-sighted for a brand-new game?
